Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep - new version

This is the poem featured in the inspirational movie on The Light Beyond site. I hope you like this new version! Authorship of the poem in its original form (with two verses) is not entirely clear, but it is thought to have been written by Mary Elizabeth Frye (1904-2004). The middle verse was added in 2007 by me, Lucie Storrs.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.

Do not stand at my grave and mourn.
I am the dew-flecked grass at dawn.
Where tranquil oceans meet the land
I am the footprints in the sand
To guide you through the weary day.
I am still here; I'll always stay.

When you wake up to morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.

I've always loved this poem, and the middle verse is great as well. When our hospice is asked to do a memorial, I usually try to slip this poem in somewhere.

This is such a beautiful poem, and your addition fits perfectly, Lucie. It is comforting to think of our loved ones still being a part of our everyday existence. I believe this is true, that they are with us in spirit. It is a great comfort.
