![]() In my therapy, we do a lot of imagining of how things would have felt, if things would have been different.
I have also read about how only having imaginative support can help. I can feel a change of mood whenever I imagine that my father would be waiting for me at home (eg when I´m on vacation) and my mood or outlook changes dramatically and only then it is I see how much the loss still effects me and to what extent. I think I´m somewhat depressed, though I don´t even notice it most of the time. I think a big part of this, is feeling alone and i feel that having a loving family would change my feelings completely to the better. Also, I´m an aspiring dancer and I´ve read and been told about how important it is for athletes to have family support in order to succeed. I was wondering if it can help to regularly have imaginations of a loving family, even if it isn´t really there, like it helps to imagine having my father by my side or in another room. How would anyone go about with this? And do you think it can help? |

![]() thats a very difficult question to reply to confused88 none of us are qualified to add to a therapists analysis i will give you an unqualified opinion though i would say there is a fine line with pretending easy to start thinking there's a whole family waiting at home when there isn't and if someone is ill or having help coping in life the reality can easily get distorted you have to live in the real world and accept what is .
on the other hand the reality is your dad is close by in spirit all the love and things he taught you is still inside you and will give you strength in coping you can easily visualise this and also that family could be your future no harm dreaming of that and focusing on what the future may bring my thoughts are with you hazel x

thanks for your reply hazelharris. It helps to remember this... Yes, maybe it´s a question for my therapist. Maybe visualisation is a better word than "imagination" in this case... |
