Default Another Beautiful Poem

When I was first starting down this transplant road I joined up with an online support group. Someone had posted this poem and talked about how they had wanted it read at their funeral. I found it so fitting and now have the same wish for it to be read at mine.

THE GOLDEN HEART

God saw you were getting tired
and a cure was not meant to be.
So He put His arms around you
and whispered "Come with me".

With tearful eyes we watched you
as we saw you pass away.
Although we loved you deeply,
we could not make you stay.

Your golden heart stopped beating,
hard-working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
that He only takes the best.

I've always loved this poem, except for the last couplet. "God broke our hearts to prove to us/ that He only takes the best" makes god sound awfully cruel, and it isn't even true...EVERYONE dies, good and bad...

But I love the first two verses. Thanks for posting it here.

I never thought of the last two verses that way. Now that I see it I have to agree with you. Guess a person can revise it for use.

That really is a lovely poem and Calypso makes a good point, but I think that it can be accepted just the way it is.
